Bio

Kari is a wife and a mom to two children. She was born and raised in Prince Albert, SK, where she enjoyed fishing and camping growing up and continues to with her family now. She obtained an Integrated Resource Management Diploma from SIAST Woodland Campus and an Environmental Biology Degree from the University of Regina. Kari moved to Whitecourt in 2007 to start her Forestry Career. She has since had the opportunity to conduct the following field work, to name a few of the main programs:

  • Establishing and/or remeasuring Permanent Sample Plots (PSP) for Government of Alberta, Millar Western Forest Products, Weyerhauser, Slave Lake Pulp and Blue Ridge Lumber
  • Vegetation identification for Millar Western Forest Products and Slave Lake Pulp PSPs down to moss identification
  • Temporary Sample Plots for Blue Ridge Lumber and Forcorp
  • Establishing and remeasuring Mortality Ingress plots for Millar Western Forest Products
  • Remeasurements of Dynamic Aspen Density Experiment (DADE) and Strip Cut Understory Protection (SCUP) programs for Forest Growth Organization of Western Canada
  • Performing quality checks of plots for various Inventory work listed above

The second half of her career has mainly been spent out of the field with more of a Data Analyst role with some supervisory and safety responsibilities:

  • Review of hard field data, entry of data, review of entered data, organizing photos, and compiling all to be delivered to the client in a very professional delivery.
  • Aging thousands of tree cores.
  • Responsible for monitoring the safety check in and check out system.
  • Help with the organization of field staff.
  • Writing up and submitting proposals along with invoicing clients.
  • Obtained safety trainings through Alberta Forest Products Association (AFPA).

Kari has been with Tall Timber Resources Inc since the end of 2015 as their Data Analyst. She has always loved the outdoors and values the years she had in the field, as she feels it has made her a well-rounded forester. Right now, the office side is a better fit for her current stage of life. The years she has spent in the field have given her an understanding of the projects the field crews are conducting when she completes the data review. Almost all project data that TTR completes goes through Kari for review before it is submitted to the client. She is very detailed, and takes pride in providing clients with a complete, thoroughly reviewed deliverable. Field crews know complete work is expected, so very little ends up being missed during the field work, which then allows TTR to maintain long-lasting relationships with their clients because of the work they produce and deliver.

Beyond Work

In her free time she enjoys fishing, curling, puzzles, card games and reading. As a family, they all have a love for the outdoors. They spend their summers at their lake lot, with many hours on the lake fishing or soaking up the sun. Her children joined Junior Forest Wardens this year. Kari really enjoys seeing the little ones learn the outdoor skills, and she helps educate the group with vegetation and tree identification along with any other of her skills she can pass along. It is important to her that the sustainability of our forests are maintained and that the next generations have an interest in all that nature as to offer.
